  • Dragon

    Dragon

    Hover and Fly
The Dragon is the first DeepFlight craft to offer hovering capability, allowing complete freedom to cruise alongside big animals or stop and hover over ancient shipwrecks. Quad brushless DC thrusters and an underwater lithium battery pack give you quiet, efficient operation for up to 6 hours between charges.

    Take the Controls
The Dragon uniquely offers the DeepFlight Dive Manager (DDM), a proprietary technology that monitors and manages critical functions. The DDM allows you to pilot the Dragon with minimal training and provides the ability to set the depth limit on any particular dive.

    Inherent Safety
Like all DeepFlight craft, the Dragon has fixed positive buoyancy, meaning that it will always naturally float back to the surface. No variable ballast system, no drop weights, just pure, safe underwater exploration.

WORK CONTINUES ON THE NEW 79 METRE M/Y CRN 135 AT THE ANCONA SHIPYARD

Wednesday 11th May 2016 – CRN, Ferretti Group’s brand specialised in the construction of 50 – to 90 metre, steel and aluminium pleasure yacht, is hard at work on the M/Y CRN 135. The yacht will be 79 metres long with a full beam of 13.50 metres, making it the second largest vessel ever built at the shipyard after the 80 metre flagship, M/Y Chopi Chopi.

The new superyacht was designed by CRN Engineering with exteriors by Studio Zuccon International Project and interior design by Studio Laura Sessa.

Work at the shipyard is on schedule: the stern section was fitted over the last couple of weeks and the skilled craftsmen are now focused on fitting the 5 decks that will accommodate 12 guest in 5 VIP cabins and the Master Suite, as well as 39 members of the crew.

Made entirely in Italy and sure to become one of the brand’s hallmark products, the new 79m yacht will feature the most important innovations on board that have marked the history of CRN. It will also stand out for its spectacular volumes, airy spaces, sleek design, soft lines, attention to detail, and on board lighting design, all intentionally aiming to emphasise the visual contact with the sea.
The launch is scheduled for 2017.

    Along with the 79m M/Y CRN 135, the Ancona shipyard is currently building the 74m M/Y CRN 131 and a 50 m M/Y Superconero.

  • UNFURLED CROWNED 2016 SAILING YACHT OF THE YEAR, AS WELL AS TAKING THE PRIZE FOR SAILING YACHT 45 METRES AND ABOVE

UNFURLED CROWNED 2016 SAILING YACHT OF THE YEAR, AS WELL AS TAKING THE PRIZE FOR SAILING YACHT 45 METRES AND ABOVE

Fresh from an exceptional regatta season, we’re thrilled to announce Unfurled has won both the World Superyacht Award in the Sailing Yacht 45metre and above category, as well as the 2016 Sailing Yacht of the Year award.

Unfurled’s owners are very proud to have received the awards and extend their gratitude to all those who were involved in the design and build of the 46 metre sloop, which won the 2016 St Barths Bucket.

“We have more than surpassed our goals. In getting there, we can look back at these past three years, from the first drawing to launch and see how much we have enjoyed the process. The collaboration, the trading and testing of ideas, the satisfaction and challenges have resulted in the new Unfurled. We are proud and profoundly grateful to all who were involved.”
Our congratulations to everyone involved in this remarkable project.

Interior Designer, Oliver Stirling praise the Owners for their passion and experience of sailing which resulted in a remarkable yacht.
“Unfurled is a remarkable yacht for remarkable owners. The success of her interior is due to their passion and experience of sailing, matched by their uncompromisingly high standards and knowledge of Design and the design process.

The challenge of building their vision of a cool, calm, contemporary interior with rigorous integrity of detailing and materials was achieved through the seamless teamwork and total commitment of the yard and interior contractor.”

Designer and naval architect Germán Frers
“Success brings satisfaction and more success. This is the second yacht we designed for this special pair, the Owners, which were involved in every detail and judged every decision. Innovations were questioned and had to be proven before they were adopted. Aesthetic consideration have been the driving motivation but in the end common sense prevailed above all. Unfurled is the product of tem work of the Owners, the project manager Vitters the builder, the spar maker and the sail designers”

Louis Hamming, Managing Director at Vitters Shipyard
For the Vitters team, Unfurled was a remarkable project to work on. She carries a great number of innovative and in-house developed elements that all have been carefully engineered and built. We would like to thank everyone who has taken part in this project; now recognised as the sailing yacht of the year.”

  • NAUTICA ITALIANA PRESENTS THE NEW HISTORY OF THE SEA IN ITALY

NAUTICA ITALIANA PRESENTS THE NEW HISTORY OF THE SEA IN ITALY

NAUTICA ITALIANA presented the second part of its NAUTICA 365 strategic plan. Affiliated with Fondazione Altagamma, the Association groups together high-end companies from the entire sector – Industry, Services and Territories – and was created to promote Italian nautical products and services throughout the world, with the aim of restoring them to the reputation they deserve and thus boosting growth and exports. Last October, it presented its NAUTICA 365 strategic plan, based on three key pillars aimed at supporting growth:
    1) Nautica Italiana’s Manifesto
    2) The Charter of Values, immediately translated into an Ethical Contract
    3) A new national and international promotion plan

In recent months, the Association has engaged an intensive action on all three fronts.
Particular focus was devoted to the new event strategy, formulated first and foremost on the basis of a thorough analysis of the overall scenario, i.e., the priorities of international growth of companies and, at the same time, the industry’s need for support in promotion on the domestic market as well. In addition, the Association was able to rely on the competences and expertise offered by its chosen professional partner: Fieramilano, Italy’s largest exhibition centre in terms of facility area and infrastructures.
NAUTICA ITALIANA and Fieramilano, under an agreement soon to be formalised, are working together to write the new history of the sea in Italy, as outlined in a new international trade fair programme starting in 2017, with invitations to participate to be extended to all of Italy’s nautical associations, according to the following schedule:
    • AN OUTDOOR INTERNATIONAL NAUTICAL SHOW DEDICATED TO MEDIUM AND LARGE-SIZE BOATS, IN SPRING
    • A LIFESTYLE & GLAMOUR EVENT, IN SUMMER
    • AN INDOOR EXPOSITION IN MILAN DEDICATED TO SMALL BOATS AND WATER SPORTS, IN AUTUMN

Lamberto Tacoli, Chairman of NAUTICA ITALIANA, stated: “Our sea – and all of the knowledge, culture and industry that derives from it – does not just belong to the coasts; rather, it is an asset that the entire country should protect and develop. Accordingly, if the greater opportunity for enhancement, meetings and sales of that category of medium and small-size boats that represent the portion of the nautical industry with the strongest growth potential passes through Milan, we want to be there, as effectively as possible, along with Fieramilano. At the same time, for our buyers, who on the day after the purchase become potential tourists, we also want to be able to offer an opportunity to get together in an Italian seaside setting, and this is why we would like to continue the tradition of a big event in Genoa.”

“I strongly believe that Italy can and must have excellent trade fairs in all fields in which it boasts manufacturing excellence, with the resulting benefits not only for the organiser but also, and above all, for companies. Groups such as Fieramilano and cities such as Genoa must be ready to do their part,” writes Corrado Peraboni, Chief Executive Officer of Fieramilano, in the letter sent to the Chairman of Nautica Italiana on the occasion of this meeting. “Consequently, we have been very thankful and proud to receive Nautica Italiana’s request to take on an active role in organising a national trade fair programme for this industry.
We are certainly not starting from nothing: Italian fairs and events, as well as examples from nearby countries, are proof of not only the sustainability of distinct events on land and at sea, but also the need for them. These different events are equally representative, international and excellent; far from being a random jumble they are an organised sequence of fair events that grow together. This is why we immediately agreed with the idea of a national programming, open to contributions from all industry operators.
In this phase of examination and preparation, we provided Nautica Italiana with our concrete perspective and the organisational conditions that we believe to be necessary for a national programming to be established with the winning characteristics that we all expect. We are organisers and not nautical experts: we offer our expertise with trade fairs and expect that industry operators will provide their specific expertise of their sector.
As we offer our wishes for a positive press conference, we therefore confirm that Fieramilano, along with the Italian nautical industry, which will create the conditions indicated above, and in collaboration with Genoa, is ready to answer the call and provide its trade fair expertise in implementing the programme.”

In parallel, the Association will accompany the schedule of large events with a programme of additional initiatives, which is open to further development and is designed to bring the nautical sector to the fore for all of the 365 days of the year. These initiatives will include:

    • SEATEC-YARE, Viareggio and Carrara
    • DESIGN & INDUSTRY, Salone del Mobile Milano (Milan Furniture Fair)
    • SUPERYACHT DESIGN AWARDS, Florence
    • MONTENAPOLEONE YACHT CLUB, Milan

    Further information on NAUTICA ITALIANA
NAUTICA ITALIANA, the association affiliated with Fondazione Altagamma, was founded in September 2015 by 25 leading Italian nautical manufacturers with the aim to bring together top firms from the entire sector – Industry, Services and Territories -, draw up a strategy for the development and growth of the nautical industry, both in Italy and internationally, and restore the international stature that it deserves.
Open to cooperation with other important industry players, such as Territories and regional Districts, it is selective in its efforts, with a focus on its Charter of Values and shared strategic project.
Nautica Italiana’s positioning and particular focus on international markets are traits it shares with Fondazione Altagamma, which since 1992 has been a common forum for top Italian cultural and creative firms recognised as true ambassadors of Italian style to the world. In fact, the affiliation with Fondazione Altagamma stems from the awareness of the possibility of creating strong synergies with other sectors of excellence and further enhancing the role of the entire nautical industry.
In order to achieve these goals, the association drew up “NAUTICA 365” — a 360° strategic project for 365 days of the year based on three main pillars: the Nautica Italiana Manifesto, with nine concrete legislative proposals to support industry growth; the “Ethical Contract” to ensure professionalism and transparency, and a national and international promotional plan with a new nautical events strategy.
The Board consists of seven members: Lamberto Tacoli (Chairman); Luigi Alberto Amico, Cataldo Aprea, Fabio Boschi, and Giovanna Vitelli (Vice Chairpersons); Corrado Salvemini (Director); and Lorenzo Pollicardo (General Secretary).

  • Fresh perspectives at Cramm Yachting Systems

Fresh perspectives at Cramm Yachting Systems

Cramm Yachting Systems in the Netherlands, market leader in the design, development and construction of hydraulic equipment for superyachts, recently appointed a new operations manager. Since joining the company, John Oost has worked on streamlining processes and enhancing time discipline, financial planning and project management. This is another step in the Dutch equipment manufacturer’s ongoing strategy to strengthen its position in the global market.

With the appointment of John Oost as operations manager, Cramm Yachting Systems is looking forward to new accomplishments in 2016 and beyond. With experience gained principally from production platforms, Mr Oost is well-versed in planning, lean manufacturing and other management techniques, and will help optimise time and fund management.

Cramm is currently working on a variety of projects, running the full gamut from fully custom to series production. “Our quality is evidenced by the calibre of our customers, who are largely world-class shipyards,” explains sales manager Paul Boelens. “Right now we are in the process of building what may be the largest full custom crane for a superyacht. This serious piece of machinery will serve a large 15-tonne tender and we are in consultation with the client about the design as we speak.”

    Sustained upswing
“The global market is in a sustained upswing at the moment, and we can tell that our customers’ order books are filling up,” Boelens continues. “Quality will remain our most important focus in the foreseeable future. However, at Cramm we take a holistic approach, thinking along with clients in order to find the perfect solution for every situation. This can involve various degrees of quality as well as customisation or cost cutting. An unbeatable combination for both standard and custom solutions, this approach has served everyone concerned well.”

Cramm Yachting Systems is increasingly playing the role of knowledge centre and problem solver among its customer base. “Yards who need new solutions can come to us and discuss the possibilities,” Boelens says. “We cover a broad range of products that includes passerelles, ladders, cranes, sliding beam cranes, doors and hydraulic power units. The fact that Cramm can take care of the entire process from design and production to installation and start-up is also an advantage for new as well as existing clients.”

    Group synergies
Cramm Yachting Systems is part of a group that includes sister firms Hydromar Marine Equipment and Cramm Helicopter Landing System. In addition to manufacturing the products of these three companies, group production facilities ESV Berlikum and SMI Groep also have broad experience in items such as body scanners and various solutions for the offshore and food industries.

“There are significant synergies here between the different parties,” Boelens says. “We make sure that the experience is shared across companies wherever useful. We are also situated relatively close to each other geographically, making collaborative projects simple and convenient. Once again, it is the customer that benefits.”

Cramm Yachting Systems is a global market leader in the design, development and construction of hydraulic equipment for superyachts. Based in the Netherlands, Cramm can supply and deliver projects on a worldwide basis, and has built a solid relationship with many of the leading superyacht shipyards. Cramm Yachting Systems has ISO 9001:2008 certification from Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance.

Heesen Yachts launches YN 17650 Project Akoya

yachts middle east - Heesen yachts - Akoya

Heesen Yachts is proud to announce the launch of YN 17650, a 50m semi-displacement yacht during a private ceremony on Friday April 1, 2016.

YN 17650 is the fifth in the award-winning 50m class with streamlined exterior styling by Omega Architects. The ‘shark grey’ hull colour adds grace to the elegant exterior lines.

Four clearly defined deck areas provide space for every occasion: a foredeck for secluded relaxation, a vast 70-sqm sundeck, shaded dining on the upper deck aft terrace, and a multifunctional main deck aft.

Space has been optimised throughout and YN 17650 has the highest possible internal volume under the 500GT threshold. 12 guests are accommodated in 6 staterooms. The master suite is located on the main deck, while the remaining guest cabins are on the lower deck and include a full-beam VIP, two twins (that can transform into doubles) and two doubles, all with ensuite bathrooms.

YN 17650 will undergo intensive sea trials in the North Sea where she is expected to reach a top speed of 23 knots. She will be delivered to her owner in June 2016.

Note to Editors – Founded by Frans Heesen in 1978 in Oss, Heesen Yachts was the first Dutch shipyard to employ aluminium for the yacht hulls. Since then we have become a world leader in the design, engineering and construction of high-performance motoryachts. In 1992 we expanded our business to include the construction of displacement yachts, and today we deliver superyachts within the 34 – 75 metres size range, and beyond. In 38 years we have delivered over 170 yachts. The current fleet includes aluminium, steel, displacement, semi-displacement and the new fast displacement hull form. Heesen is financially secure, large enough to cope with complex construction, small enough to care about each project, motivated to pioneer innovations and dedicated to continuing the tradition of Dutch quality shipbuilding.

  • New launch Unfurled is victorious in her first St Barths Bucket

New launch Unfurled is victorious in her first St Barths Bucket

Vitters is thrilled to announce that its 46-metre high performance aluminium sloop, Unfurled has won the 2016 St Barths Bucket.

The win is particularly exciting as this is the first St Barths Bucket Regatta the German Frers-designed sloop has competed in. Unfurled was a remarkable project to work on for the Vitters’ team and carries a great number of innovative and in-house developed elements that all have been carefully engineered and built, for the ultimate clean appearance and to add to the safety of crew and guests. The yacht embodies paramount high performance characteristics, while offering the enjoyment of comfortable living on-board.

The Bucket Trophy was presented to her as the pursuit class winner which prevailed in the ‘most competitive, closely contested class’.

yachts middle east - Vitters Shipyard - Trophy
Unfurled takes that title after a hotly-contested few days of racing by the fleet of Les Gazelles des Mers, which today saw her win the 24.3nm ‘Wrong Way Around’ course. The win over second-placed Visione, and third-placed Nilaya, means the regatta closed with Unfurled at the top of the points table following her win on the first day of racing, and a fourth placing in yesterday’s race. Fellow Vitters’ projects, Inouï and Galateia finished fifth and sixth respectively in the division after three days of great racing in champagne conditions.

In Les Elegantes des Mers class, 46-metre Ganesha swooped in to take second place in today’s race and second place in the series behind class-winner P2. She was followed across the line by 45-metre Lady B in third place; a performance which saw her placed fifth in her class for the series.

Les Femmes des Mers class were sent on a course of 20.08nm which gave Bella Ragazza time to overhaul members of the fleet for third place on the day, as well as securing third place for the series behind Axia and Hyperion.

Back on land, celebrations were just beginning to crown an exceptional regatta. Prize giving saw not only the fastest yachts awarded, but also those which displayed that certain something extra which makes the Bucket special.

yachts middle east - Vitters Shipyard - St Barths Bucket

Each year, Vitters is proud to award the Vitters Seamanship Trophy to the yacht which displays the best seamanship and sportsmanship in the interest of promoting safety on the race course. This year, that yacht was Alexa of London who received the award in recognition of her crew’s understanding of those qualities.

The 2016 St Barths Bucket was raced from the 16-20 March, with six Vitters projects competing for titles. The entire Vitters team congratulates those involved on another exemplary regatta.
