    Exciting launches and new orders

A year to remember for Van der Valk

Van der Valk has had a very inspiring 2016. We completed two yachts and received a number of new orders – a testament to the vision of our clients and skill & dedication of our craftsmen and engineers. Moreover with several other yachts still under construction there’s lots to look forward to in the year ahead.
Among the 2016 deliveries is 23M Grey Falcon. She sports an exterior profile designed in-house and an interior from the boards of Guido de Groot. Her triple third-generation Volvo Penta IPS 1050 engines give her a maximum speed of 32 knots, making her one of the fastest vessels built by Van der Valk to date.

    Life’s a beach
Another highlight of the year was Van der Valk’s new and genuinely unique (the patent is currently pending) concept for mid-size motoryachts developed together with designer Cor D. Rover and Ginton Naval Architects. The all-aluminium Van der Valk BeachClub line will provide owners and their guests unprecedented amounts of space, both inside and out, by locating the engine room in the same area as the swimming platform. The first of these innovative motoryachts, the 18.60-metre BeachClub 600, is currently under construction.

    Celebrating 50 years
The year ahead is set to be even more exciting for Van der Valk as we celebrate our golden jubilee. The yard will be expanding its facilities (watch this space for more information soon), and we will deliver no less than seven new vessels: three Flybridge yachts of 18, 23 and 27 metres in length, two 26-metre Raised Pilothouse yachts, a 25.50-metre Explorer and, not least, the all-new BeachClub! There are also a number of refit projects booked.

We look forward to sharing news of these and other milestones throughout 2017. In the meantime, all that remains is to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a happy new year.

International Superyacht Society Awards, winning the “Best Power Design Award 2016″
in the category between 40 and 65 metres.
The ceremony was held during the 57th Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

15 November 2016 – CRN, the historical shipbuilder and Italian brand part of the Ferretti Group specializing in the construction of fully-custom steel and light aluminium alloy pleasure vessels between 40 and 100 meters in length, received yet another important international acknowledgement at the International Superyacht Society Awards with M/Y Atlante, against the magnificent setting of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

In front of a wide audience of experts, CRN’s iconic 55-metre superyacht was awarded the “Best Power Design Award 2016” in the category between 40 and 65 metres thanks to her strong stylistic identity which makes her a unique and aesthetically innovative vessel in international yachting.

The outcome of the joint efforts of CRN’s Engineering Department, in charge of naval design, design firm Nuvolari Lenard, who took care of her exterior profile, and of architecture and design practice Gilles & Boissier, who the interiors, M/Y Atlante conquered the Jury with her crisp and bold exterior lines, which express a strong masculine identity, reflecting the Owner’s wishes and taste.

CRN Chief Commercial Officer Stefano De Vivo commented the award: “Besides making us extremely proud, this award is a powerful sign of the strong brand awareness of CRN in the American Market. With Atlante, CRN Atelier has conceived an unprecedented vessel, which goes beyond conventional paradigms and constraint. SUCCESSFUL SHOWS CULMINATE IN SALE OF NEW WIDER125

After the successful premiere of the WIDER 150 at the Autumn European shows, WIDER are delighted to confirm that they will start construction of a new WIDER 125, commissioned by a Northern European client at the recent Monaco yacht show. Delivery will be in late spring of 2019. WIDER have confirmed that they have the capacity to build a second unit in parallel and are currently in advanced discussions with several interested parties. More information will be released in due course.

The all-aluminium vessel, with exterior design by Fulvio De Simoni will retain the distinctive WIDER style of the W150 and the W165 as well as the same diesel electric technology. The WIDER 125 will include a full beam master stateroom on the main deck with a large opening terrace together with owner’s study and gym (or sixth cabin, depending on personal preference. This is a unique feature for yachts of this size and will be particularly appealing should the owner decide to place on the charter market). Guests will be treated to four lavish staterooms that stretch further aft than on a traditional motor yacht of this size, well into the area usually reserved for an engine room. A range of 2,600 nm is expected at 12 knots, increasing to 3,400 nm at the economical speed of 10 knots. The yacht has a top speed of 14 knots and can also run solely using batteries in Zero Emission Mode.

  • 33m Missy Sailing in the Mediterranean

33m Missy Sailing in the Mediterranean

Following delivery to her owner in August, Missy is now in the Mediterranean and has already been spotted out cruising in the Bay of Palma.

The team from Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design joined the yacht last week to put Missy’s sailing prowess to the test.

“Missy has exceeded all my expectations and is a delight to sail; she is perfectly balanced with plenty of stability to carry her generous sail plan. Missy’s deck is a very comfortable place to be with many places to relax whilst sailing, whether it be in the cockpit, on the aft sunbeds or on the comfortable teak-covered coamings. Visibility from the helm stations is uninterrupted over her sleek, low profile and yet the raised saloon offers all-round visibility whilst seated below. Missy will live up to all expectations as a comfortable world-cruising yacht as well as a competitive regatta yacht.”

Missy is a high performance sloop-rigged superyacht. She has a lifting keel and benefits from the latest carbon-fibre composite technology in the construction of her hull, yet she retains all the interior luxuries required for comfortable family cruising.

The initial brief from the client was for a world-cruising yacht that was lightweight and fun to sail, as well as keeping his young family safe in a protected environment.

The cockpit seating arrangement is an interesting aspect for a yacht of this size, allowing guests to rest unhindered, safely nestled in comfort, even during sailing manoeuvres.

The yacht has interconnecting internal spaces which provides many social areas and the largely glass canopy over the saloon gives an open and airy feel, as well as connecting the interior with the cockpit – providing another family-orientated area.

With the cockpit area being so important, the client wanted to be able to cover it completely, at the push of a button, and also be able to stow the bimini away – so as not to obscure the aesthetics of the yacht. In answer to this, we designed a fully-automated bimini and dodger system that, when stowed, sits flush with the superstructure and Missy’s low profile.

Missy will spend next summer cruising the Mediterranean, before embarking on a worldwide cruise.

  • CRN AT THE FORT LAUDERDALE INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW

CRN AT THE FORT LAUDERDALE INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW

After the 2016 Monaco Boat Show, CRN is back to the American market, taking its bespoke yachting art overseas

Ancona, 28 October 2016 – CRN, the historical ship builder and Italian brand part of the Ferretti Group specializing in the construction of fully-custom steel and light aluminum alloy pleasure vessels between 40 and 100 meters in length, takes part to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, to be held from the 3rd to the 7th of November.

CRN will be present at the Boat Show with a stand in the SYBAss area, which gathers all the leading superyacht builders in the world.

The US boat show, reaching its 57th edition this year, is one of the world’s most prestigious showcases for recreational boating, attracting all the major brands in this sector. This year too, CRN is here to reiterate the strategic importance of the American market, for both the brand’s already satisfactory – and yet potentially growing – business volume and thanks to the presence of Owners increasingly interested in purchasing custom-made superyachts.

“CRN exports 95% of its production, and the Americas are a strategic market, holding a huge potential” states Ferretti Group CEO and CRN President Alberto Galassi. “Overseas, Italian yachts are considered as the most prestigious and desirable ones, as is the case with leading haute couture and car brands. CRN is an ambassador of Italy’s excellence in the construction of bespoke pleasure vessels. Indeed, thanks to its expertise, CRN meets wishes and needs of a cosmopolitan clientele like the one of the United States and Central and South America, by conceiving and building unique, truly tailor-made yachts for extremely selective and demanding Owners”.

Confirming the Company’s great visibility and popularity in this geographic area, three yachts from the CRN Atelier will be among the finalists of the International Superyacht Society Design Awards, whose awarding ceremony will be held during the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show: 46 m M/Y Eight in the “Best Refit” category, 73 m M/Y Yalla in the “Best Power” 65m plus category, and 55 m M/Y Atlante – CRN’s latest jewel – in the “Best Power” 40 m to 65 m category.

Last, but not least, CRN’s stand will have on display the Bespoke artwork recently presented at the 2016 Monaco Boat Show. This stunning piece of art, the outcome of CRN Atelier’s creativity and craftsmanship, skillfully blends together the materials, finishes and processes that the Ancona-based shipyard exclusively offers its Owners, and has been conceived to pay tribute to CRN’s art of yacht building in the world.

  • Greetings from Monaco

    Greetings from Monaco

Greetings from the south of France, where the team of Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology is currently at the Monaco Yacht Show. We have deliberately chosen to have no fixed stand at this year’s event in order that we can get out and about to meet as many people as possible!

There is also a world of inspiration here on in the iconic Port Hercules. The Monaco show is one of the most important events on the superyacht industry calendar, attracting some 600 exhibitors and around 125 superyachts on the quays as well as many more spread around the other harbours during the event. The show started yesterday and goes on until the traditional blowing of the ship horns on Saturday evening.
We have already had some positive discussions with potential new clients here. It’s been good to explain some of Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology’s work on superyachts such as the electrical systems installed on the unique Hartman motoryacht Livingstone, the 33-metre sailingyacht Missy, the Drettmann 24M but also the refit of the famous sailing yacht Windrose of Amsterdam.

  • AN OUTSTANDING INTERIOR FOR MY “GREY FALCON”

AN OUTSTANDING INTERIOR FOR MY “GREY FALCON”

The new 23 metre Continental Two “Grey Falcon” has a serene and sophisticated interior. Designed by Guido de Groot, her interior is a blend of contemporary design with a few classic flourishes.

The yacht has carefully integrated technology and well thought out use of storage. The entertainment and furniture elements form part of a cohesive whole, with forms flowing from one into another. For example, the flat screen television and the Bowers and Wilkins speakers are placed into the side tables next to the sofa, all in a single arrangement. The dashboard extends and becomes an integral part of the well equipped galley, which in turn manages to include two wine coolers. The dining table can accommodate larger groups of guests and there has been careful consideration for storage with a number of clever solutions.

The master stateroom, VIP and guest cabins provide comfortable accommodation for up to six guests, whilst the crew area, which boasts a crew mess, has two berths. The master cabin is a large open plan space, though it naturally has a separate toilet.

The Continental Two’s interior uses a pale grey palette of colours (suitable for a yacht named “Grey Falcon”), prominent amongst which was the choice of a very elegant grey oak. Complimenting this are attractive details using Alcantara, real suede, granite plus a combo of wenge flooring and high gloss Palissander woods.

The design team has chosen to include a number of geometrical shapes, which add visual interest, with the overall effect being one of warm, inviting modernity.
